Member of the Research group 3 : "Theologies and philosophies" of the french Laboratoire d’études sur les monothéismes, David Lemler is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Arabic and Hebraic Studies at Sorbonne Université, where he teaches Medieval Jewish thought. He previously taught at the Department of Hebraic and Jewish Studies at the University of Strasbourg (2013-2020) and at the EPHE, Sorbonne (2010-2013)..

Projects

 Setting the philosophical allegorical exegesis used by Medieval Jewish philosophers within a larger history of allegorical interpretation, at the crossroad of the three monotheistic religions.
 Tracing back the history of this type of exegesis from Saadia Gaon to the Provençal disciples of Maimonides.
 Assessing the impact of this revolutionary type of exegesis in the Rabbinic tradition.
