Member of the Cluster 3: Ancient, Medieval and Modern Philosophies and Theologies, Andrei Timotin is a Professor at the Ecole pratique des hautes études, where he holds the chair "Philosophie et théologie de langue grecque (Ier-VIe s.)". He is a specialist in the historical study of religious thought in the Greek Platonic tradition, based on the concepts that articulate the system of mediations between the divine and the human: daimôn, prayer, sacrifice, divination, initiation in mystery cults, revelation

 Middle- and Neoplatonic religious philosophy and theology
 History of the exegesis of Plato’s dialogues
 Platonic tradition and patristic tradition
 The cultural heritage of Antiquity in the Byzantine world

Research themes

 Fundamental notions of Platonic religious thought: daimon, prayer, sacrifice, divination, initiation, revelation.
 Reflection on the religious phenomenon in the Platonic tradition: religious mediation, divine hierarchies, divine affectivity and religious emotions, the interiorization and textualization of ritual, the vision of God / gods.
 The dialogue of Platonism with other philosophical currents (e.g., the Peripatetics and Stoa) and religious forms (e.g. Christianity, Hermeticism).
 Plutarch’s religious thought.

 Inner rituals. Study on the interiorization of religious practices in Neoplatonism
